What is the origin of the word "Zonta"?
"Zonta" is derived from a Lakhota word (Teton Dakota), a language of the Native-American Sioux peoples, meaning honest and trustworthy. It was adopted in 1919 to symbolize the combined qualities of honesty and trust, inspiration and ability to work together for service and world understanding.

An individual, or Zontian, is a member of a Zonta club in their local community. Zonta clubs are a member of Zonta International. Zonta clubs participate in local service and advocacy efforts while supporting the global service and advocacy initiatives of Zonta International.
