Young Women in Public Affairs Awards (YWPA)

The YWPA award recognizes young women for their commitment to the volunteer sector, volunteer leadership achievements and dedication to the advancement of the status of women. It is not a scholarship. It starts in the Zonta Clubs and continues at District and International level. The goal of the YWPA Program is to encourage more young women to participate in public and political life.

Eligibility
Any pre-university or pre-college women students
(age 16-20) at the time of application are eligible to apply.

Award
Zonta Clubs usually sponsor Club Awards. The Zonta International Foundation provides awards of US$1,000 for each District recipient and US$3,000 for each of the five International recipients. Zonta Clubs and Districts may provide additional awards.

Application Process
The YWPA Awards Program operates at the Club, District, and International levels of Zonta International, and is managed by Zonta members. To apply, please contact the Zonta Club nearest you or E-mail your name and contact information to the YWPA Chairman.

Phase I
Zonta Clubs publicize the award in their communities, distribute, receive and evaluate applications. All application materials, recommendations, and verification of enrollment must be received at Zonta Club(s) by end of February (please note that all the Zonta Clubs have different deadlines). Zonta Clubs must submit their Award recipient's application to the Zonta International District Governor by 1 April.

Phase II
The District Evaluating Committee review the applications and select one applicant per District to submit to Zonta International Headquarters.

Phase III
The Zonta International YWPA Subcommittee reviews the District applications and recommends five International Award recipients to the Zonta International Board. After the Zonta International Board has approved all District and International recipients, the Zonta International Foundation provides a US$1,000 award and certificate for each District recipient and a US$3,000 award for each of the five International recipients.
