Zonta Club of Ilocos Norte continues to support community during pandemic

The Zonta Club of Ilocos Norte, Philippines, continues to go above and beyond to support their community during the pandemic.

Face mask donations

The club donated 350 Zonta face masks to Mayor Michael Keon of Laoag City. The masks will then be distributed to the barangay's health workers.

Educational Support

The pandemic was proven to be a major obstacle for students accessing the education they need. With remote learning settings, problems such as technology and stable internet connection are now necessary, which is something not all students have access to.

To address the issue, the club joined the Mariano Marcos State University CTE's student council's TaRabbi program, which aims to provide qualified students with educational assistance. By donating gadgets and other supplies, the club can aid students who are struggling in their online classes.

Gardening as an alternative source of income

The club visited Barangay 27, Nuestra Senora de Soledad, which is the location of its Urban Farming Project's second phase.

The club members and the barangay officer marveled at how the once empty lot transformed into a bountiful garden filled with all sorts of vegetables and fruits. 

The women who have been tending to these crops were delighted at the abundant yield. The club members helped harvest, and the fresh produce grown will become an alternative source of income for the local women.

Grocery Drive

The club celebrated the Lunar New Year by handing out pails of groceries to women from Barangay 23 San Matias Laoag City. The Barangay captain and volunteers helped the club to distribute the supplies.
