Zonta Club of Ilocos Norte supports community through service and advocacy

The Zonta Club of Ilocos Norte, the Philippines, continues to support its community through service and advocacy. Read below to learn all about the club's actions. 

Blood Drive

The club partnered with the Philippines National Police-Women and Children Protection Desk (PNP-WCPD) and the Philippines Red Cross Ilocos Norte for a blood drive. 

The event took place at the Ilocos Norte Police Provincial Office's (INPPO) multi-purpose hall, and 30 individuals donated blood; most of them were policewomen on duty. Some of the donated blood will go to the blood bank of the PNP-WCPD to aid domestic violence survivors in need of blood.

The club has been hosting regular blood drives to address the dwindling supply of blood at public hospitals caused by the pandemic. The blood drives have been a great help to those who require blood, especially mothers who gave birth with complications.

Webinar on Solo Parent Act and Magna Carta of Women

As a part of their celebration of Women's Month, the club attended a webinar hosted by the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWD) on 11 March. The webinar focused on the Solo Parent Act and the Magna Carta of Women. CSWD invited attorney Franklin Calumag and Perlita Cabello to speak to their audience, many of whom were women and single parents.

Free Fluoride Varnish Application

The club celebrated the first anniversary of its free dental initiative by giving out fluoride varnish applications to 50 young girls aged 9-12-years-old. The attendants also received toothbrushes and toothpaste.

Memorandum of Agreement

The club strengthened its women-centric advocacies and programs by forming a special partnership with the PNP-WCPD under Julius Suriben, the acting provincial director of the Ilocos Norte Command. The signing of the memorandum of agreement occurred on 28 March at the INPPO multi-purpose hall.

Memorandum of Understanding

On 1 April, the club met with the Gender and Development (GAD) Focal Point System at Mariano Marcos State University to sign a Memorandum of Understanding at Teatro Ilocandia. 

This collaborative partnership will create advocacy programs and GAD training to strengthen gender mainstreaming and promote gender equality and unity.
