The Zonta Club of Sydney Breakfast Inc. continues to support young women in engineering by awarding their 16th annual Women in Engineering & IT Education Award.
The 2017 award was given to a second-year female student at the University of Technology Sydney. The awardee received AU$1000 and was invited, along with finalists, to attend the club's Women in Engineering and IT Education award breakfast.
During the breakfast, attendees heard from a successful female engineer, as well as from former award recipients, who shared stories of how the award has made a difference for them.
This year, a second award, Highly Commended, was created to recognize the quality of the top two applicants.
The award was established in 2002 to encourage women to continue studying non-traditional occupations. To be eligible, applicants must submit their academic record, an essay detailing their experiences from their first year of engineering and their opinions on what can be done to increase the participation of women in engineering and engineering education.
