Members of the Zonta Club of Dhaka III visit Rohingya refugee camp to discuss child marriage

An eight member team from the Zonta Club of Dhaka III, including President Khadija Afzal and immediate Past Governor of District 25 Fahmida Karim, visited Rohingya Refugee Camp No. 11 in Ukhiya, Cox’s Bazar in Bangladesh in February.

They shared information on the elimination of child marriage to 100 Rohingya women at a safe Centre of Action Aid and later distributed 100 blankets, towels and food among them.

The legal, financial, medical and social aspects of the problems of child marriage was explained to the group and counseling was made available for the Rohingya women, many of whom were married at an early age.

The members visited Brac Humanitarian Project for children and distributed food and the team also surveyed the tube wells and toilets that had been earlier financed by the Zonta Club of Dhaka III and implemented by Action Aid.
