Zonta Club of Colombo III pairs with local NGO to aid community

12 February 2018

The Zonta Club of Colombo III is working with a local service organization to provide clean water to residents in rural Sri Lanka.

By collaborating with Give2Lanka, the Zonta Club of Colombo III (District 25) raised funds to provide drinking water to specific areas in Batticaloa, Sri Lanka, that are deprived of pipe borne water. Pipe borne water is water that comes from a protected water source and provides healthy drinking water.

The women in some areas in Sri Lanka oftentimes have to spend hours traveling to fill their buckets with water for their basic needs. This takes time away from engaging in their own business projects or spending valuable time with their children.

Every year the drought situation impacts many parts of the country and can cause issues for families in rural villages. Give2Lanka, an NGO, has provided water connections to residents in Batticaloa in the areas of Veillivey, Kalwanchikudi and Chenkalady.

Members of the Zonta Club of Colombo III are working with Give2Lanka to implement a plan to provide access to clean water to 200 families in a sustainable manner.
