The Zonta Club of Tampa was awarded as the Outstanding Program Partner for 2017 by the PACE Center for Girls in Hillsborough County. The club was recognized at the Journey 2 Success Luncheon on 1 November.
The PACE Center is a voluntary school for girls between the ages of 11 and 18, who are experiencing difficulty in life. The school provides academic support, health care, psychological services and life skills.
The Zonta Club of Tampa has been providing all the necessities for the "Step-Up" Program, which is held the last Tuesday of every month for all the girls and staff for more than 8 years. When students enter the PACE program, they are evaluated and assigned to a “step.” As they meet milestones and "step-up," the steps are celebrated with all the girls and staff at the end of the month. The Tampa Club provides treats, as well as birthday gifts to the young ladies who earn steps. They also give items to the PACE store. Girls shop the PACE store when they have shown positive growth.
In addition to receiving the Program Partner Award, the Zonta Club of Tampa has become their scholarship partner by presenting PACE with US$2,000. This newly developed program has only been funded by three groups, of which the Zonta Club of Tampa is a charter member. Scholarships will go to deserving young ladies who have completed the PACE program and are pursuing post-secondary education.
