By Maria Jose Landeira Oestergaard, 2014-2016 Zonta International President
In a little over two-weeks-time, more than 2,000 club members from 60 countries will gather in Nice, France for the 63rd Zonta International Convention with the theme, Empowering Women – TOGETHER!
For our members, Convention is a time to look back and celebrate the accomplishments we have achieved together and to look ahead and make important decisions about the future of Zonta and our priorities for the next two years.
It is also a time for fellowship, a time when we come together with friends, old and new, from around the world to discuss challenges facing women around the globe and learn from one another as we develop ourselves as leaders and advocates for women.
As President of Zonta International for the last two years, I have had the honor and privilege of leading this global community of nearly 30,000 professional women and men who share a commitment to empowering women and girls in our local communities around the world. Our dedication and global impact can be seen in the achievements of our International Service Projects, our projects within the Zonta International Strategies to Eradicate Violence Against Women and girls (ZISVAW) and the thousands of service and advocacy actions taken by Zonta’s nearly 1,200 clubs in 67 countries. Furthermore, our advocacy impact has increased through local and global actions focusing on long lasting impact and our sharp and clear voice at the United Nations and the Council of Europe.
Together, we empower women and girls worldwide to realize their rights and to achieve their full potential!
I look forward to meeting my fellow Zontians in Nice to celebrate our successes, plan for the future and recommit ourselves to a world in which gender equality is a reality and no woman lives in fear of violence.
To my Zonta friends, see you in Nice, and for those of you who cannot be with us, thank you for your Conviction, Commitment and Courage to Empowering Women – TOGETHER!
