Monday October 10, the NGO CSW Geneva held its forum “Economic Empowerment of Women and Girls in a Sustainable Development Perspective” to provide information and knowledge about women’s issues in working life today.
Simone Ovart, NGO CSW Geneva President and UN representative for Zonta International, was the initiator of this forum and chaired the session. I had the honor to represent Zonta in a panel around equal pay. Approximately 200 people participated, among them 30 Zontians. The forum focused on four interrelated topics:
- Women in decision-making
- Equal pay for women and men
- Addressing unpaid care work
- Government procurement for women’s rights
The main objective of the forum was to contribute to the realization of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and to provide examples of effective solutions.
The four panels consisted of qualified and knowledgeable speakers. The outcome of the forum will be a report with a set of action-oriented recommendations to be circulated among Member States and disseminated through the NGO CSW Geneva networks. This report can then serve as a tool in advocacy work both at the international and national levels.
