I would like to wish everyone a happy new Zonta year. It is now 2017, and we are already six months into the 2016-2018 Biennium.
As I reflect on 2016, I am encouraged—especially by our recent Zonta Says NO to Violence Against Women campaign. I have never seen such activity before. Each year, clubs embrace the campaign more and more. Clubs all over the Zonta world participated with awareness actions, but also with seminars and panel discussions to increase advocacy. I am really, really impressed and proud of our clubs’ actions. Thank you to all Zontians for everything you do.
Last year, the ZI Board also made some important decisions to make Zonta fit for the future. The investments we approved will make us stronger and facilitate work in each district. Our international committees have created strategic plans and started their work to make them come true.
We have been active within the United Nations, advocating for the Sustainable Development Goals, joining UNFPA’s Safe Birth Even Here campaign, and attending multiple seminars and forums in Geneva, New York, Paris and Vienna. In 2017, we will continue making Zonta’s voice strong and clear at the UN, including at the 61st session of the Commission on the Status of Women in March.
This year will indeed be exciting. I am looking forward to learning about Zontians’ successes and challenges in the new year. If we all go in one direction, we will reach our goals and create a better world for women.
