Student clubs encouraged to apply for Zonta International’s Emma L. Conlon Service Award

By Candace B. Edwards, Zonta International Z Clubs and Golden Z Clubs Committee Chairman

Zonta International believes young people are critical to achieving gender equality and ending violence against women and girls around the world. Through the Z and Golden Z Club program, Zontians work to bring Zonta International’s mission to empower women through service and advocacy to students around the world and to stimulate new and meaningful student-led service and advocacy projects.

It will soon be time to recognize those Z and Golden Z clubs who have best expressed the ideals of Zonta International through their service and advocacy projects by awarding the Emma L. Conlon Service Award to six outstanding clubs.

The Zonta International Z Clubs and Golden Z Clubs Committee looks forward to reviewing the award applications and learning about how Zonta’s student clubs are empowering women worldwide through service and advocacy. Click here for the 2017 Emma L. Conlon Service Award application. Zonta members may find more tools by clicking here.

Z and Golden Z clubs who have performed at least three service projects in any of the following categories are eligible and welcome to apply: school service; community service; international service. Clubs must only submit a total of three service projects in any category.

This year’s deadline for applications to be received at Zonta International Headquarters is 30 April. I urge all participants to apply as early as possible. In June, Zonta International Headquarters will notify sponsoring Zonta club presidents, governors and regional representatives of the winners. The award recipients will also be posted on Zonta’s website to give recognition to the clubs.

First place clubs receive US$1,000; second place clubs receive US$500; and third place clubs receive US$250. The award money is to be used for the club’s service projects. More information about the award can be found here. To find out which clubs received the Emma L. Conlon Service Award in 2016 and read about their service projects, click here.

The Z Clubs and Golden Z Clubs Committee encourages all active Z and Golden Z clubs to apply, and wishes you all the best. Remember, together we all can make a difference in the lives of “Future Leaders Building a Better World Today.”
