USA Advocacy Action Center

Zonta International is a global organization of women and men dedicated to empowering women worldwide through service and advocacy. The Zonta International Advocacy Action Center is a tool for our members in the United States and other individuals who share our commitment to gender equality to take action to improve the lives of women and girls. With your help, we can make a difference. Here are some things you can do.

Prevent violence against women and girls globally

Around the world, an estimated one out of every three women will be beaten, coerced into sex or otherwise abused in her lifetime. Up to 70% of women in some countries report experiencing gender-based violence at some point in their lives.

Please contact your senators and representative and ask them to support the bipartisan International Violence Against Women Act of 2019, S.3037 and H.R.5267.

Protect women and girls in the United States from Female Genital Mutilation

Female genital mutilation (FGM) is a human rights violation and a form of child abuse, gender discrimination and violence against women and girls. FGM is a global problem, and its eradication requires international cooperation and enforcement at the national level.

Please contact your representative and ask them to support the bipartisan STOP FGM Act of 2020, H.R. 6100.

In partnership with UNICEF USA, End Child Marriage

Worldwide, more than 650 million women and girls alive today were married before their 18th birthday. Some of them are right here in the United States.

Zonta International and UNICEF USA have joined forces to raise awareness and enact change to end child marriage globally and locally, right here in the U.S., with the ultimate goal of ensuring that girls fully enjoy their childhood free from the risk of child marriage.

Call on your state representative and state senator to end child marriage with zero exceptions by supporting legislation in your state legislature.

Help End Child Marriage: Keep Girls in School

The economic benefits of girls’ education are substantial and can help lift households, communities and nations out of poverty.

Ensure Equal Rights for Women

The Equal Rights Amendment was passed by Congress in 1972; however, it has never been fully ratified. Its ratification would provide a constitutional guarantee that all men and women are truly equal under the law and that these rights cannot be easily abridged. Without the ERA, women do not have equal rights under the law.

We need your support to secure additional co-sponsors for S.J. Res. 6. Urge your senators to be on the right side of history, as we celebrate the centennial of women’s suffrage.

Take Action for Title IX

Campus sexual assault is a significant issue across the United States with 1 in 5 women and 1 in 20 men reported to have experienced some form of sexual assault in college. However, despite these staggering numbers, the Department of Education released proposed changes to Title IX regulations, which would significantly weaken protections for survivors of sexual assault.

Add your name to our letter to Secretary DeVos, urging the Department of Education to withdraw the proposed regulations.
