Amelia Earhart Fellow, Professor Amina Helmi, wins 2026 Kavli Prize in Astrophysics
Zonta International congratulates former Amelia Earhart Fellow Amina Helmi on being awarded the 2026 Kavli Prize in Astrophysics.
Professor Helmi shares the prestigious honor with Vasily Belokurov and Rodrigo Ibata for "uncovering the fossil evidence of past mergers, proving that the Milky Way galaxy was built through hierarchical accretion."
The Kavli Prize recognizes scientists whose discoveries advance our understanding of the universe, nanoscience and neuroscience. Each prize includes a share of US$1 million and will be presented in Oslo, Norway, in September.
Professor Helmi is among 10 scientists honored with the 2026 Kavli Prize for research that has expanded knowledge of the big, the small and the complex. Her achievement reflects the impact of women in science and the lasting legacy of the Amelia Earhart Fellowship program in supporting women pursuing advanced research in aerospace-related sciences and engineering.
