Another Centennial Anniversary

Like Zonta, the International Labour Organization (ILO) was founded in 1919, in the aftermath of World War I. One of its key missions right from the start was the "improvement of women’s right and working condition" and "equal remuneration for work of equal value." Is this not remarkable? Today, the ILO has 187 member countries in total.

On Monday this week UN Chair Ingeborg Geyer, UN Committee Main Representative in Geneva Els Van Winckel and I met with Mr. Guy Ryder, Director General of the ILO to congratulate him on the ILO’s centennial anniversary and the adoption of the Convention "Violence and Harassment in the World of Work“ in June this year. Work on this Convention started well before the #MeToo movement took off. We talked about Zonta achievements and goals and possibilities to collaborate on the violence at work issue.
