Remarkable climate justice and environmental advocate shares her powerful story
Marinel Ubaldo is currently the regional field director for the North Carolina League of Conservation Voters Foundation's PowerUp NC Program. She is also a co-founder and managing director of the Institute for Youth in Climate Diplomacy. As a Greenpeace volunteer, she has mentored climate activists, providing guidance and support for their campaigns and initiatives. By raising awareness of climate justice within communities, she empowers youth and children with knowledge, inspiring them to become advocates for a sustainable future.
On the global stage, Marinel has had the privilege of representing Filipinos at the opening ceremonies of UNFCCC COP21 in Paris, and at COP25, COP26, COP27 and COP28. Additionally, she is one of the petitioners in the landmark case of the National Inquiry on Climate Change and served as a resource person during the Climate Justice Liability Public Hearing at Climate Week in New York, USA, in September 2018. Her experience as a climate reality leader, trained by former U.S. Vice President Al Gore, has equipped her with valuable knowledge and skills in the field.
Marinel met with Lynne Foley OAM, host of the Remarkable Women, Powerful Stories podcast, to share how surviving a super typhoon and its aftermath in her fishing village shaped her journey. Drawing on her personal experiences and education, Marinel addresses environmental crises while advocating for those who contribute the least yet are most affected by climate change.
