Remembering Zonta International Parliamentarian Alice Bartelt

The Zonta International Board and global Zonta International community were saddened to hear of the sudden passing of dedicated Zontian Alice Bartelt on Tuesday, 29 August, in Portland, Oregon, at the age of 76.

Alice joined the Zonta Club of Corvallis in 2011 and served as club president from 2016 to 2018. She also served as District 8 Parliamentarian for many years and as Parliamentarian for the Zonta International Board from 2016 until her death.

Alice was a professional registered parliamentarian and member of the National Association of Parliamentarians and American Institute of Parliamentarians. She served as parliamentarian for numerous organizations, including the Women First Fund, American Association of University Women in Oregon, Oregon Association of Parliamentarians, Episcopal Diocese of Oregon, Sons of Norway, and League of Women Voters of Oregon.

In addition to Alice’s dedicated service as a member of Zonta, Alice was also an active member of the American Association of University Women and served on the boards of the Women First Fund, Oregon Women Lawyers, the Columbia Chapter of Americans United for Separation of Church and State and the Diversity Section of the Oregon State Bar.

Alice practiced worker’s compensation law for 25 years before she retired in March 2007 from SAIF Corporation, where she worked as a staff attorney.

With Alice’s passing, the Zonta International Board lost a trusted advisor and good friend, and the entire Zonta International community lost a generous and committed advocate for women and girls. Alice will be remembered fondly by all those who had the privilege to know her and work with her.
