Zonta International joins UNICEF panel at Climate Week

As the General Assembly wrapped up in New York at the end of September, Climate Week commenced, gathering leaders from business, technology, politics, academia and civil society for the largest annual climate event of its kind. UNICEF USA hosted an insightful session, “Driving an Inclusive Green Transition: Closing the Climate Girls’ Gap,” where Zonta International's UN Committee Chair, Pamela Morgan, joined as a panelist.

The session tackled critical questions regarding the role of girls and women in the green economy, including:

  • What challenges do girls and women face in accessing education, particularly in learning digital and green skills necessary for leadership in a sustainable economy?
  • What successful initiatives have empowered girls and women with green skills? What were the key factors contributing to their success?
  • How do partnerships between the public and private sectors contribute to systemic transformation, equipping girls with essential leadership and green skills?
  • In what ways can investing in girls’ education and empowerment support broader environmental and economic goals, especially within marginalized communities?

By addressing these questions, panelists underscored the need for gender-inclusive solutions in tackling climate issues. Climate Week 2024 continued to emphasize the importance of equitable education and skill-building as part of the global climate agenda.
