Zonta members advocate for child marriage ban at D.C. council hearing

On 21 October the D.C. Council heard testimony on three bills, including Bill 25-955, the “Child Marriage Prohibition Amendment Act of 2024.” Three Zonta members—Lourdes Venes from Zonta Club of Fairfax, USA, and Sonya Baskerville and Ramona Stoltz from Zonta Club of D.C., USA,—attended in support of the bill. Zonta International received acknowledgment from American Atheists during their testimony.

Vilas Wright, a child marriage survivor, delivered a moving statement, “Say it out loud, women and children’s voices matter—listen to them.”
