Zonta International commemorates International Women’s Day and Zonta Rose Day 2024

On 8 March, International Women’s Day, Zonta International joins the global celebration of the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. The Zonta community also marks 8 March as Zonta Rose Day, a time to reflect on past achievements and honor the current efforts of individuals working toward gender equity.

“Each year, Zonta members around the world celebrate International Women’s Day and Zonta Rose Day by giving tribute to the people who have most inspired them with gifts to the Zonta Foundation for Women,” said Zonta International President Ute Scholz. “It is because of generous donations such as these that we are able to build a better world for women and girls through our international service projects and education programs. Each of these initiatives aim to provide life-changing opportunities for women and girls to enjoy their human rights and realize their full potential.”

This year’s International Women’s Day global campaign theme is #InspireInclusion. According to internationalwomensday.com, “when we inspire others to understand and value women's inclusion, we forge a better world. And when women themselves are inspired to be included, there's a sense of belonging, relevance and empowerment.”

“We have all gone through different journeys of life and each of those stories is important,” Scholz said. “When we come to a place where we feel welcomed and empowered to make a difference, that is when we will truly achieve a better world for women and girls.”

According to the World Economic Forum’s Global Gender Gap Report 2023, none of us will see full gender parity in our lifetime. And this is why the work of Zonta is so important now.

“We understand that what we do in the present builds to an equal future,” Scholz said. “Each member has the Zonta Spirit and brings their own unique experience, identity and ideas when working to build a better world. This diversity is a powerful tool in making our vision for gender equity a reality.”

This Zonta Spirit is also seen within each of our club’s actions. Our members engage in advocacy and awareness efforts focusing on topics that relate directly to the community such as: ending gender-based violence, demanding equal pay, closing the gender gap in male-dominated fields and more.

This year on International Women’s Day and Zonta Rose Day, Zonta International encourages its members worldwide to enhance the visibility of Zonta within their own communities by participating in local events, partnering with like-minded organizations, celebrating the achievements of women and to making a special donation at www.zonta.org/donate on behalf of someone who has empowered them.
