In the news: Zonta Club of Cape Girardeau marks 50 years
The Zonta Club of Cape Girardeau will mark its 50th anniversary with a yearlong series of events — including a 5K, 10K and 1-mile fun run/walk — beginning Saturday, June 13, in Cape Girardeau, benefiting the Zonta Club of Cape Girardeau Foundation.
A news release states the club has spent 50 years “advancing the status of women locally and globally” through advocacy, service and education while supporting Zonta International’s mission to recognize women’s rights as human rights.
Today, the club has 72 members from across Southeast Missouri and Southern Illinois, including 12 young professionals. According to the release, members include physicians, business leaders, educators, not-for-profit advocates and entrepreneurs who focus on improving the lives of women and girls in the region.
Anniversary highlights include a ribbon-cutting and open house Tuesday, Sept. 1; the “What Were You Wearing?” exhibit from Friday, Sept. 4, through Friday, Sept. 25, at Catapult Creative House; a SEMO District Fair Wine Spot fundraiser from Sunday, Sept. 6, through Sunday, Sept. 13; the Friday, Nov. 13, “Women of Achievement: The Golden Anniversary Celebration”; and the Wednesday, Nov. 25, through Thursday, Dec. 10, “16 Days of Activism” campaign.
