Zonta Club of Accra Jubilee organizes local health screening

The Zonta Club of Accra Jubilee, Ghana, organized a health screening and sexual reproductive health program on the 28 October in the local, underprivileged community of Chorkor, a suburb of Accra.

The club selected Chorkor because of its notably high levels of teenage pregnancy, early marriage and other attendant byproducts of poverty. Through this program, the club seeks to transform the outlook for girls by empowering them with education and sexual reproductive health awareness, which will help launch and protect their dreams.

The club collaborated with the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital Public Health Unit, B.A.S.I.C.S International, an afterschool intervention program and the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial School for the health screening. Various generous healthcare stakeholders also made the activity possible, including Ernest Chemist Limited and the support and donations of numerous friends and families of the local Zontians.

The club plans to have a biennial health screening and sexual reproductive program. For their first year, they reached 113 females, of which 66 were girls.
