Zonta Club of Cebu II launches virtual Walk for Women walkathon

The Zonta Club of Cebu II, Philippines, is launching their first virtual Walk for Women walkathon. The walkathon will take place from 25 November to 12 December for the Zonta Says NO.

The club is launching the walkathon to celebrate women and promote gender equality and dignity and increase awareness that women's rights are human rights. It also aims to unite as many people as possible through a common goal while creating a safe space for women. The virtual walk will have participants walk any or all five distances, each corresponding to a specific cause:

  • 3 KM, Say NO to Teenage Pregnancy.
  • 5 KM, End Child Marriage.
  • 10 KM, Break the Chain of Inequality and Abuse.
  • 15 KM, Stand Up Against Trafficking of Women and Children.
  • 21 KM, Say NO to Violence Against Women.

Participants can walk or run at their place. They can join from anywhere globally, from the treadmill inside their home or outside in their local parks. The overarching message of the walkathon is to establish a safe space for women wherever they choose to be.
