Zonta Club of Cebu II relaunches family literacy program

After more than two years of hiatus imposed by the COVID-19 pandemic, the Zonta Club of Cebu II, Philippines, brought back its Alimbukad: Basa Pamilya family literacy program. The program serves kindergarten to second-grade students' families in local schools to promote parental involvement in a child's success in school through read-aloud and other at-home literacy activities.

Initially launched in 2013, the program provides weekly book bags for the participants. A monthly session is held in each school where parents and children engage in interactive reading activities.

A relaunch event of the program took place at each participating primary school. Officials from the local Department of Education and other organizations attended the events. Many families and their children excitedly revel in the relaunch. After the event, the families brought their first book bag home and embarked on their journey to a new world of learning and discovery.
