Zonta Club of Johnson County Provides Support for Victims of Rape

The Zonta Club of Johnson County supports women and girls who are raped right here in Johnson County.
Following the offense, the victims mostly drive themselves to the local hospital, where they are met by a team of health professionals who begin their examination and collect evidence for the prosecution of the sex offender.

There are unsung heroes who rush to the hospital to provide emotional support for the victims throughout this process and once the leadership of Johnston County Zonta club was made aware of what this experience was like for the victims, we decided to help out.

After having the physical exam, and forensics, the police usually take away the clothing that might have evidence on them. So, most of the time they are left with little, or no, clothing to wear when they leave.

Our Zonta Club is committed to providing clothing for these ladies when they leave the hospital. We will be providing pants (pajama, sweats, yoga, jeans, etc.) new or gently used, and panties of all sizes as needed. The plan is to keep them stocked at the ER to allow the victims to leave fully clothed and with a bit more dignity.

In addition, the Zonta Club of Johnson County will be having a great speaker for their August meeting.

Dr. Cindy Burnette, SANE (sexual assault nurse examiner) manager for Texas Health Resource System to talk about this important work.
We invite you to come to our meeting at 12 Noon at J. N. Long on Wednesday, August 21.
