Zonta cycling team bikes to Leuven 2021

Zontians from District 27, Area 5, formed a cycling team for a Leuven 2021 tour. The team consisted of 39 Zontians from 15 different clubs in Area 5.

The Zonta cycling team is an ongoing tradition that continues in memory of the late Griet de Prycker, the 2016-2018 District 27 Governor. In 2013, Griet sparked the idea to participate in the 1000 km for Kom op tegen kanker (KOTK), a cycling event that raises funds for cancer research. After the KOTK, the team embarked on another cycling adventure: cycling to the District Conference in 2015 to Metz, France. Since then, the Zonta cycling adventure has never ended.

As she has always done, Griet continues to inspire the Zontians to cycle on. Her motto "Focus on the sun" has been adopted by the team, and it is a source of motivation. After years of cycling, the team feels like one Zonta family, and they are happy to spread the values of Zonta through cycling on visible national and international platforms.

This year, to prepare for the tour in Leuven, the Zontians actively fundraise by selling trendy and colorful socks with Griet's motto printed on them. The proceeds with be donated to the Zonta Foundation for Women.

The tour kicked off in Bruges, Belgium, on 28 September and the team valiantly finished in Leuven, Belgium, on 1 October after 300 km on their bikes.
