Zonta Club of Central Tuguegarao expands women’s empowerment efforts

The Zonta Club of Central Tuguegarao, Philippines, continued its mission to empower women and expand its reach across Cagayan Province through two recent initiatives.

On 24 May, the club partnered with the Office of Board Member Attorney Mila Catabay-Lauigan and Cagayan State University (CSU) Carig Campus to launch the “Dagdag Kita para sa Kababaihan: Nail Specialist Livelihood Program.” The training, held at CSU Tuguegarao, equipped 35 women with professional nail care skills through lectures and hands-on sessions led by Proffesor Juliet Batulan Caliguiran and supported by CSU faculty. Participants received nail care kits and were encouraged to use their new skills for income generation and financial independence.

“This project is a concrete step to provide women with opportunities not just for livelihood, but to build self-confidence,” said Club President Josefina Sedano.

Providing an overview of the program’s broader impact, Board Member Attorney Mila stated, “Many women are victims of violence. At home, men are often seen as the providers, which grants them dominance over women. By offering skills training, we empower women to have a stronger and more equal voice in their households.”

The following day, the club held the official orientation and witnessed the election of officers for the newly established Zonta Club of Northern Cagayan and Apayao, Philippines, in Pamplona, Cagayan. The event, led by Attorney Mila and Central Tuguegarao club officers, introduced new members to Zonta’s mission, responsibilities and benefits of membership.
