Zonta Club of Laguna strengthens advocacy and youth leadership for gender equality

The Zonta Club of Laguna, Philippines, continued advancing gender equality on the global stage as Hon. Maria Rene Ann Lourdes G. Matibag, club president and representative of Laguna’s 1st District, served as a panel speaker at the 2nd WAIPA Women Political Leaders Forum in Malaysia. The forum, themed “Leading Inclusive Transitions: Women and the Future of Digital, Climate, and Governance Agendas,” brought together women leaders to discuss digitalization, climate adaptation and women’s leadership. Matibag highlighted the importance of representation, mentorship and gender-responsive policymaking, referencing key Philippine legislation and grassroots initiatives that empower women and girls.

Building on its commitment to nurturing future leaders, the club formally conducted the installation of officers and board members of several Z and Golden Z Clubs via Google Meet. Students from Calendola National High School, Southville National High School, Pacita National High School and Our Lady of Assumption College were installed into leadership roles, with club leaders encouraging them to serve with integrity and dedication. The ceremony emphasized the importance of youth leadership and the role of Z and Golden Z Clubs in advancing service, advocacy and gender equality.

Further strengthening its advocacy work, Congresswoman Ann Matibag convened a meeting with Congresswoman Sarah Elago, Councilor Eunice Castro and Atty. Jeamie Salvatierra to discuss House Resolution No. 363 and the strengthened implementation of the Safe Spaces Act. During the meeting, Castro shared her personal experience to raise awareness of sexual harassment and encourage women to speak out. The Zonta Club of Laguna and the Zonta Club of Metro Laguna and Environs reaffirmed their commitment to promoting justice, equality and a future where women and girls can live and work free from harassment and violence.
