Golden Z Club of UMak launches ‘Lakambini’ campaign for Women’s Month
The Golden Z Club of the University of Makati launched “Lakambini,” its official Women’s Month campaign, to celebrate the strength, resilience and contributions of Filipina women.
The campaign’s inaugural event, “Lakambini: Lakas at Giting ng Binibini,” was held March 25 at the UMak Auditorium and marked the organization’s first official activity.
In his opening remarks, Golden Z Club President Shawn Michael V. Caliboso emphasized that the campaign is a continuing movement aimed at empowering women and amplifying their voices.
The program included interactive activities encouraging students to recognize influential women, as well as a keynote talk by Samantha Bernardo titled “Give to Gain,” where she shared insights from her journey in pageantry, media and motherhood.
The Center for Guidance and Counseling Services also led a discussion on the Safe Spaces Act, reinforcing awareness of student rights and the importance of maintaining a safe and inclusive environment.
As part of the campaign, the organization launched “Lakambini: Linyang Babae, Kwentong Sarili,” a short-form video contest highlighting diverse stories of womanhood. Seven entries explored themes including motherhood, education and personal growth.
Romalyn D. Garcia of the Institute of Social Work won first place, followed by Marie Sairel L. Estrera and Dwayne Kiane M. Isidro of the College of Innovative Teacher Education, and Je-anne Marte T. Montero and Charile B. Ballion of the Higher School ng UMak.
In closing remarks, Marcy Kohchet-Chua, president-elect of the Zonta Club of Makati and Environs Inc., underscored the role of youth in shaping the future and expressed support for continued initiatives.
Organizers said “Lakambini” will continue beyond Women’s Month, with additional activities planned to promote empowerment and inclusivity within the university community.
