Zonta Club of Jelgava honors inspiring women on Zonta Rose Day
The Zonta Club of Jelgava, Latvia, continued its annual Zonta Rose Day tradition by recognizing outstanding women who go beyond their professional duties to uplift their community. Since 2013, the club has hosted “Jelgava Woman – Pride of the City”, an event that highlights selfless, inspiring women who make a difference through dedication, volunteerism and leadership.
This year, five women were honored with the title “Jelgava Woman – Pride of the City” and presented with a yellow glass rose, a symbol of Zonta, handcrafted by a local artist. The honorees were recognized in the following categories:
- "Hope for Future Science"
- "For Active Participation in the Development of a Sustainable Society"
- "Woman – Educator of Courage and Patriotism"
- "For Continuing the Spirit of Spīdola in Education and Upbringing"
- "For Promoting Green Entrepreneurship"
This year’s Rose Day was particularly significant with the official launch of the book “Women Who Shape the Future”, which chronicles the achievements of five former Zonta Club of Jelgava presidents, celebrating their leadership in science, politics, entrepreneurship, civic engagement and international education. The featured leaders include:
- Baiba Rivža – Woman in Science
- Rita Vectirāne – Woman in Politics
- Daiga Latkovska – Lifestyle Entrepreneur
- Kristīne Kreile – Civically Active Woman
- Anna Vintere – Woman in International Educational Cooperation
The book stands as a testament to the power of women’s leadership and the impact of education, equality and collective empowerment. By sharing their stories, the club continues to inspire and support women, reinforcing its mission to build a better world for all.
