Zonta Club of Accra Metropolitan contributes to the fight against the spread of COVID-19

On 18 June, the Zonta Club of Accra Metropolitan made a donation of an extractor fan to the infectious disease unit of LEKMA Hospital in the Ledzokuku Krowor Municipal area.

The Zonta Club of Accra Metropolitan deemed it necessary to support efforts at preventing and controlling the spread of COVID- 19. This extractor will take out infectious air and ensure that the air in the unit does not re-infect patients or the medical team that will attend to them.

Zonta International responded to discrimination in a statement dated 10 June: "As an advocate for women's rights that are, in fact, human rights, Zonta is committed to treating everyone with equal respect and cannot tolerate discrimination."

With regards to the above statement, the club's president, Sandy Kojo-Andah, took the opportunity at the handover ceremony to express an opinion on the rise of stigmatization towards people infected with COVID-19 and those who have recovered from it.

While the club urges all Ghanaians to adhere to the precautionary measures against contracting the virus, there is also the need for them to speak up and reject any form of stigmatization.

"We all have an important role to play to put an end to stigmatization which is a form of discrimination," the club said.
