Inspired by the surprising emergence of community pantries in different areas across the country, the Zonta Club of Ilocos Norte partnered with the Laoag City Tourism Office, socio-civic clubs and employees of the city government to organize a community pantry at Aurora Park, Laoag City in April 2021.
It is through the support and generosity of the organizers and other generous donors that the pantry was able to provide for almost 2,000 beneficiaries, belonging to the 80 barangays in Laoag City. Further, due to the influx of many donations from generous individuals and groups, food items that were not distributed during the community pantry were shared to the frontliners manning the barangay checkpoints of the 27 lockdown areas in the city.
The club truly believes that the generous spirit of a Zontian and the bayanihan spirit of the Filipino is alive in this time of the pandemic
