Zonta Club of Accra celebrates International Day of the Girl

In celebration of International Day of the Girl, the Zonta Club of Accra, Ghana, organized a workshop with the O and A-level schoolgirls at the Roman Ridge School under the adopted theme, "Today's Girl, Our Future; Opportunities and Challenges." The workshop aimed to empower and enhance the status and well-being of girls by engaging women mentors to invest in their future.

The club invited Professor Afua Hesse, the president of the Accra College of Medicine and the first female pediatric surgeon in Ghana, as its keynote speaker. During the workshop, Afua counseled the girls extensively on their studies and values.

Other speakers included Maisy Baer, a 2022 Young Women in Public Affairs Awardee currently studying computer science at Ashesi University. Maisy is an alumna of Roman Ridge School and was a past head girl. During her segment, she encouraged her peers to focus on their desires with passion and dedication.

There was also a breakout session where students gathered in groups to discuss how girls can be the future and what they received as challenges and opportunities for them as girls.

The club plans to establish a Z club at the school and revive the Golden Z Club at Ashesi University with Maisey Baer as club president.
