Zonta Club of Bad Soden-Kronberg donates to Ukrainian refugees

With the generous contribution of Zonta clubs around the world, the Zonta Club of Bad Soden-Kronberg, Germany, donated 4,000 euros to Zonta clubs in Ukraine to support women and children fleeing the war zones. 

"We are providing concrete help from women for women," Dorothee Heine-Williams, the vice club president, explains. "There is a lack of basic necessities, but the women also manage to make the children forget the war for a moment with [various] actions. "

In Ukraine, the three Zonta clubs – two in Lviv and one in Uzhhorod – have been doing all they can to support their fellow citizens. Since the beginning of the war, they have been organizing food and medical supplies for the refugees, providing transportation to Poland and, increasingly, giving them a place to stay.

The money from other Zonta clubs in Germany and a club from Oregon, USA, will allow the club to support 80 refugee children in Uzhhorod to attend school next year.

"They receive school bags with the necessary teaching utensils, including a tablet," said Zontian Olena Kovalchuk in a letter of thanks. 

Many Zonta clubs from all over the world support Ukrainian women with donations or provide private accommodations. However, the club wants to expand its support for them.

Dr. Ilja-Kristin Seewald, the new club president, announced at her inauguration in June: "As part of my presidency, I would like to intensify contact with the clubs in Ukraine, support them locally and help the refugee women and children here with us."
