Zonta Club of Gladstone Inc helps girls prepare for school

The Zonta Club of Gladstone Inc, Australia, just finished another round of donations to local students moving from primary school to high school, aimed at empowering girls in education. At such a crucial time in a young girl's life, it is vital to have the right equipment.

Since 2021, the club has been providing girls with vouchers to purchase items, such as shoes, uniforms and supplies, to help them start the new school year on a good note. Last November, the club was able to help 37 girls in the Gladstone region.

The program aims to encourage girls to stay in school and feel confident by having the right tools to start high school. Well-fitting shoes, uniforms, brand-new school bags and books ensure the girls enter high school feeling confident. Fitting in also helps to reduce the chance of being bullied.

The program does not support girls, who usually receive awards and scholarships. Instead, the club works with school principals to identify girls from families who need a helping hand. The program has become increasingly popular with schools and families.

After being selected, the students are given the scholarship at a private meeting with Zonta club members. Some schools invite parents to attend, while other schools surprise the girls. The girls who receive a surprise cannot wait to get home to share the good news with their parents. Due to great success and demand, the club plans to continue and expand the program this year.
