Zonta clubs in Italy donate personal hygiene products to women prisoners

Five clubs of Region Liguria in Italy collected personal hygiene products and lingerie to donate to the women at Pontedecimo prison to celebrate Rose Day and International Women's Day.

Most women in prison are charged or convicted for non-violent offenses, and their imprisonment is often also related to poverty and the inability to pay fines or afford bail. Many women are serving short prison sentences, despite a wealth of evidence showing that any period of imprisonment is damaging and disruptive for women and their families, especially children.

The project is coherent with Zonta's mission, aiming to foster all women's dignity, including those living in difficult situations. Leave no woman behind. The clubs involved in the project are the Zonta clubs of Alassio-Albenga, Finale Ligure, Genova, Portofino-Tigullio-Paradiso and Savona.
