Zonta Club of Greater Rizal II rebuilds local ecosystem through reforestation

To counteract climate change, the Zonta Club of Greater Rizal II, the Philippines, launched a flagship project focusing on mangrove planning.

Since launching its reforestation initiative in October, the club has raised more than 12,000 mangroves, covering a hectare area. Since mangroves provide a breeding ground for many fishes, seafood and other microorganisms, this can yield 800 kilograms of fish a year for the local community and fishermen to depend on. The budding forest can also shield the community from gusty winds and deadly waves during a storm.
