IMPLEMENTING CLIMATE CHANGE GOALS: THE ALL-IMPORTANT ROLE OF LOCAL CONTEXT AND IMPACTS TO WOMEN

Join the Zonta International Advocacy Committee and special guest, Lily Odarno, for a virtual discussion around climate change, its impacts to women, and the importance of the local context to developing and implementing climate solutions.
Lily Odarno is the Director of Clean Air Task Force’s (CATF) Energy and Climate Innovation Program, Africa. She leads CATF’s effort to address the dual need of expanding affordable energy in developing economies and building a global decarbonized energy system. Her work focuses on development-centric energy transition pathways, utility markets, and technology innovation for low-carbon energy development in Africa. Having lived, studied, and worked on three continents, Lily deeply appreciates the uniqueness of energy challenges across geographies and the all-important role of local context in developing energy systems that are meaningful for people, the economy, and the environment. She has written extensively on topics at the intersection of energy and development in Africa. She serves on the Editorial Board of the Climate Policy Journal. Lily holds a BSc in Biological Sciences from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology in Ghana, an MSc (Eng.) in Environmental Management from the Aalborg University in Denmark, and a PhD in Energy and Environmental Policy from the University of Delaware.

Zonta members will get the chance to meet like-minded organizations and share their knowledge and experiences at forums and workshops regarding women's issues. As the second largest city in Taiwan, Kaohsiung is a beautiful modern metropolis surrounded by mountains, rivers and harbors and has a rich diverse culture.

WELCOME TO OUR CLUB! THE IMPORTANCE OF DIVERSITY AND INCLUSION IN ZONTA

The Greater Diversity Working Group is pleased to welcome Heidi Moore, the principal of Moore Urban Consulting, to share insights with Zonta members on what they can do to create a welcoming and inclusive club environment.
In this session, participants will:
- Recognize why diversity and inclusion is important to Zonta as an organization.
- Understand the different aspects of diversity.
- Consider what diversity may mean in their own club.
- Learn some steps to take to create a more welcoming club environment.
- Have the ability to ask questions of the committee and speaker.
At Zonta, we believe that clubs who embrace diversity are more successful in reaching a wider audience and when reaching a wider audience, we can go further in our mission to build a better world for women and girls.

International Equal Pay Day

Globally, women on average, are paid about 20% less than men. Established by the Equal Pay International Coalition in 2019, International Equal Pay Day is dedicated to raising awareness about unequal pay to women, pushing to close the gender pay gap and calling for actions to achieve pay equity globally.
