Toko Shinoda was not only a prevalent 20th century Sumie Japanese artist, but also a founding member of the Zonta Club of Tokyo I, Japan, the first Zonta club in Japan. She died at a Tokyo hospital on Monday, 1 March at the age of 107.

Margaret C. "Peg" Snyder, founding director of the UN Development Fund for Women (UNIFEM—now folded into UN Women), died on 26 January, just four days before her 92nd birthday. Snyder became a Zonta International honorary member in 1988.
